I knew the IATSS forum program from a local newspaper and I was really interested to apply. The IATSS forum program offered me the softskill development program such as leadership, culture and social that I also needed to balance my life beside the engineering skill. I prepared all the things well starting from document submission until the interviewed. Finally, I was selected by the committe as one of the participants. It is such an honor for me to be able to represent Indonesia in this forum. I hope I can contribute my knowledge and experience to other participants through “Thinking and Learning Together”, as the motto of IATSS forum. Talking about Japan, I always remember about their high technology in manufacturing, hard worker and discipline culture, and Sushi food. To see and learn all these things, I have a chance during the precious moment in this May 2014. I am really looking forward to wait this moment where it will be interesting and unforgettable moment in my life. Finally, I feel grateful to be part of IATSS forum. I understand the committee has prepared the program really well and I believe it will be 55 days full of learning and excitement. See you all in Japan!
Joining IATSS Forum training was a unique experience for me because I learned by doing and practicing the knowledge directly. In this training, I learned how to build a team work, how to use a facilitation skill during discussion group and how to do effective communication. These kinds of interpersonal skills would be useful for me in the future since one of my weaknesses as a result from my annual office assessment was in this area. The new things that I learned during designing or developing a community was how to synchronize between economic, social and environment sector to make it sustained. Field trip to Nishi-yodogawa, Toba and Suga Island that showed the sustainable community changed my mind set from only economic oriented into the balancing between the economic, social and environment. These kinds of experience and knowledge of sustainable community, hopefully, can be shared and implemented by myself in Indonesia also to build better quality of Indonesian society life in the future. Special thanks to IATSS Forum Staff and IATSS Forum 51th participant batches for giving me a colourful meaning of life during 55 days.
